Summer 2013

All prices assume that you have a Family Membership ($50). Please note that a Senior or Senior Family membership DOES NOT count as a Family Membership under our new Friends of the Nature Center benefits structure, effective October 2012.
Tee shirts are available at an additional cost.

SECOND SESSION of Nature Explorers, Grades 1-2, is now open!

Pre-school and Kindergarten * Ages 4-5

For children who will enter PreK or Kindergarten in the fall of 2013. Campers must be at least 4 years old by July 1 and be fully capable of taking care of their own toilet needs.

Catching bugs

Catching bugs at Mini-Camp

Mini-Camp – 1 session – $65/session
Campers will spend a fun and action-packed three hours at Audubon with a naturalist. We’ll take walks, discover things, play games, get dirty, and spend as much time as possible outside! This is a great introduction to camp and what Audubon is all about. We’ll meet some animals, use some nature tools, and get your child hooked on nature!

Green Play – 1 session – $65
There are tons of studies out there that show more unstructured play in nature is better for kids – all around. So… in this camp we are going to play! We’ll use natural materials and some cheap and fun accessories to build forts, fly kites, dig holes, make mud pies, play tag, climb a little bit, and learn how to play outside.

Music Camp

Music Camp combines music and nature.

Music Camp – 1 session – $95
This collaboration with the Children’s Music Studio will feature crafts, nature exploration, and music. Campers will dance, sing, and learn about musical instruments through listening and playing. Based on an internationally renowned curriculum called “Nature Trail” from Musikgarten, this camp is the perfect mixture of music and nature. Each camper will receive a Nature Trail kit.

Grades 1-2 * Ages 6-7

For children who will enter grades 1 or 2 in the fall of 2013.

Wild Discoveries – 1 session – $125/session
Explore some of the more interesting destinations on our sanctuary… the overlook, the tower, the “forever bridge.” See where the beavers chewed down trees. Learn where the salamanders live. Throw in songs, games, and crafts and you have a full week.

Explore nature up CLOSE!

Home Sweet Home– 1 session – $125
Everything needs a home, a safe little place to shelter in. We will learn about shelters, search for animal homes, and built a whole bunch of sweet homes for animals! From bird boxes for baby birds to bee houses to toad homes we’ll make the world a better place for the animals.

Nature Explorers– 1 session – $125  —SECOND SESSION OPEN! Sign up soon!—
Explore nature during this camp! We’ll go through swamps and forests and fields. We’ll look up and under and over. We’ll looks at maps and plot a course and see if we can find our way there. Like Lewis and Clark, we’ll collect samples and take notes and explore areas that have never seen people (well, not for a while…).

  • July 30-August 2, 2013, Tuesday-Friday, 9am-3pm (21/24 enrolled)

Audubon Surprise Camp- 1 session – $125
We’d like to tell you all about this camp, but shhh…. it’s a surprise!  Oh, there will be some of the usual Audubon camp activities, you can be sure…  but there will be some things that have never happened before.  This has become a tradition for the last week of camp, a week of surprises! It is listed for grades 1 through 7, but we will divide into smaller groups by age level.

Grades 3-4 * Ages 8-9

For children who will enter grades 3 or 4 in the fall of 2013.

Nature Nuts – 1 session – $125
This group is nuts about nature! Nuts, yes! And also, pinecones, seeds, beetles, worms, slugs, snakes, frogs, trees, flowers, birds, fungi… You name it, they’ll explore it and report it through maps, art, songs, and games.

Tracking Down Nature– 1 session – $125
Footprints, scraped bark, and a pile of poo. Who’s been here? Leaves with holes, oozing sap, and munched mushrooms. What caused that? We’ll learn how footprints and other animal signs reveal animal’s stories. Maybe they will lead us to a beaver lodge, a fawn, or a fox den. Come and track down nature!

Under the Sun– 1 session – $125
The sun is the source of all life . Learn about the sun and everything under it.

How Does Your Garden Grow? - 1 session – $125
We’ll explore (and eat from) Audubon’s garden, investigating how plants grow and where our food comes from.  We’ll also discover creatures that live in the garden.

One year we caught (and released – of course) a raccoon!

Nature Safari – 1 session – $125
Experience nature on a whole new level! Trap and release wild animals so you can see them up close. Explore some of the unexplored territory off the trail. This group will go almost anywhere to see new things!

Woodscraft– 1 session – $125
Learn how to read the world around you.  Learn how to identify animal tracks and signs, plants and more while learning how to wander through the woods.

  • July 9-12, 2013, Tuesday-Friday, 9am-3pm (6/12 enrolled)

The Water’s Edge– 1 session – $140
Edges are attractive and intriguing places. In this camp we’ll explore some watery edges – the edge of rivers, streams and ponds. We’ll go on a field trip to the lake edges of Lake Erie and Chautauqua Lake. We’ll also learn how water makes edges through erosion and time. We might even hike a few edges. Come and live life at the edge!

Native Plant Garden

WE think native gardens make the world a better place. What do YOU think?

A Better Place – 1 session – $125
There are lots of things that humans do that change the world. In this camp we’ll change it for the better! We’ll plant plants, remove plants, build things, learn things and make the world a better place. We’ll muck around in the ponds, hike off trail, and come up with ways to make Audubon a better place for the plants and animals that live here.

  • August 6-9, 2013, Tuesday-Friday, 9am-3pm (4/12 enrolled)

Tower Wars

There are sometimes Stone Tower Contests during Teen Treks.

Counselor Camp – 1 session – $90 if not a counselor (teens signed up to be a camp counselor are free)
The purpose of the Day Camp Leadership Program is to recruit youth ages 14-18 to assist with camp and develop or improve basic leadership skills in the process. Students will learn about group management, age-appropriate activities, conflict resolution, team support, and role modeling as well as the importance of soft skills (appropriate dress, time management, customer service, etc.) in the workplace.

  • June 25-28, 2013, Tuesday-Friday, 11am-3pm (6/15 enrolled)

Teen Treks – 1 session – $155
We live in a beautiful region!  Expand your nature explorations as we travel in the Audubon van to a different outdoor site each day.  Past trips have included Chautauqua Gorge, Arkwright Falls, Jakes Rocks and Presque Isle.
